(Wanderlusts) - Drewry's Bluff was key in defending Richmond from Union assault up the James River. With its large naval guns and excellent vantage point it was never taken by the Federals until the capitulation of Richmond. It saw action in May 1862 when a Union flotilla, including the Monitor, tried to take out the fort.
