eBaY.com sent out the following message to all publishers this morning with the following:
As part of a larger, continued effort to protect the data of eBay’s buyers and sellers, eBay data, and eBay developer data, we are modernizing and improving the security of eBay APIs.
Our Finding API, which is used by a lot of eBay partners, enables your customers to find the perfect eBay listing without ever leaving your app or website. This API currently supports both HTTPS and HTTP in call requests to the API endpoint.
Before October 1, all partners using the Finding API must update their requests to only use an HTTPS service endpoint, as eBay will stop supporting HTTP requests. If this change is not made by October 1, all calls to the Finding API will fail.
Before you update your application to use HTTPS endpoints:
Ensure your application hosting platform/provider supports HTTPS
Test the HTTPS connection
Both our sandbox and production environments support HTTPS, so either can be used for testing. You should also check the eBay Developers Program website to confirm whether any other APIs you use also support HTTPS.
Learn more about service endpoints when making an API call.
Partners who already updated their Finding API calls to HTTPS found it took minimal effort and was completed in a few hours.
We will remind you again one month before we stop supporting HTTP endpoints for Finding API requests.
Feel free to contact us at [email protected] with any questions.
Also, if you are not the person who would typically make changes like this to your site, please forward this email to whomever can act on this business-critical update.
We appreciate your help in continuing to ensure eBay is a secure and trusted marketplace.
Sincerely,
eBay Partner Network
