Delaware is a beautiful state for retirement, starting a business, getting a good job, and fishing. There's many freshwater lakes the beautiful state of Delaware. There's beaches in northern and southern Delaware available to go fishing virtually any hour of the day. Before fishing at any lake or beach in Delaware be sure to read guidelines posted on the board about hours open to the general public before throwing your lines with a worm on the fishing hook in the water.
Lums Pond
You may want to check out Lums Pond near Newark if you haven't been to your local lake fishing lately. There's freshwater bass and catfish to be caught. The best time to try your hand at catching them is early in the morning. If you're an early bird and can make it to the pond roughly around 5 AM for the sun rises, be sure to be stocked up on fresh live worms. You also don't want your fishing hook to be too big in size because bass and catfish may catch on that it's a whole and probably won't bite the bait.
Check out Walmart in Newport or the location in New Castle for the best prices on fishing hooks and worms. You can get a 2 inch hook in a pack of six at Walmart.com for less than two dollars. A small cup of large nightcrawlers is three dollars and change. If you don't have fresh fishing line, you can pick up a spool ranging from $3-$10. You can find your fishing necessities at Walmart near the sports section near the bicycles and treadmills.
Saint Augustine Beach
Another place you want to check out for good fishing in Delaware is St. Augustine Beach. If you prefer going fishing out there first thing in the morning be careful climbing on the rocks. High tide waters slap hard against the rocks and you risk slipping when walking towards the end of the rock trail. St. Augustine Beach is a great place to catch ocean Bass.
One person was allegedly reported by a newspaper in Delaware in the past of possibly catching a 54 pound striped bass fishing off the rocks. One good thing to know is when fishing at St. Augustine Beach with the right sized fishing hooks and bait, you're virtually guaranteed to come home with something. It's worth the drive there.
Garrisons Lake
Garrison Lake near Dover, Delaware is a great place to throw your line and hook in. As you can see from the photo above, that's a freshwater bass pulled out the lake. That freshwater bass was caught with a fake rubber worm purchased from Cabelas.com by Christiana Mall. The person who caught the bass mentioned a package of those fake worms of 420 cost only $20. They come in different colors. The person who caught that bass also mentioned the best time to pull them out of the water is between 5 AM and 6:30 AM. That said, perhaps it's time for you to take a drive down to Kent County and try your hand at pulling some freshwater bass out of Garrison Lake. You just may come home a happy camper.
Rehoboth Beach, Delaware is the truth when it comes to fishing. There some of everything in Rehoboth waters, ranging from sharks, flounder, bass, blue crabs, porgies, bluefish, and more. When fishing at Rehoboth Beach you may want to consider putting between 40 and 80 pound test fishing line on your spool. That is, the plan going out on a fishing boat in Rehoboth. If you're coming from northern Delaware to Rehoboth Beach for fishing be sure to stock up on different fishing baits, plenty of hooks, money to dine at a restaurant after getting the victory of pulling large fish out the water, towels to wipe your hands and body off after your fishing trip, and a cooler filled with juice and water. You also want to bring along an extra cooler with dry ice packs to put your fresh caught fish in so you can keep them on ice while riding home.
