    Position: Histology Technician





    Kelly has been providing outstanding employment opportunities to the most talented individuals in the marketplace. We are proud to offer a temporary position with a client that is seeking a Necropsy / Histology Technician in Newark, DE.

    PAY: $22-23/hr W2 (Negotiable)
    DURATION: 12 months
    LOCATION: On-site
    SCHEDULE: Monday - Friday 40 hours (with a couple on call hours every 2 months or so)
    Shift: 6:30am or 7:00am - 3:30pm or 4:00pm

    Description:
    Necropsy / Histology Technician

    JOB SUMMARY
    With guidance from supervision and peers, assist technical personnel in general laboratory operations and routine laboratory or information handling tasks in support of scientific research. Maintains laboratory facilities and equipment in accordance with laboratory standards to help ensure the validity and integrity of experimental results. Perform tasks according to accepted methods and training prescribed by the work group.


    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (responsibilities and duties)
    1. Perform routine and special rodent necropsies (autopsies) and/or routine and special histology procedures.
    2. Euthanize laboratory animals to help ensure the humane treatment of animals.
    3. Observe and record data such as weights and physical characteristics of laboratory animals in accordance with Laboratory standards.
    4. Observe and record facility and equipment measurements such as weights and temperatures in accordance with Laboratory standards to help ensure the validity and integrity of experimental results.
    5. Work as a member of a team toward timely, efficient, accurate and precise production of histological slides for examination by the pathologist. This includes, embedding, cutting, staining and cover slipping.
    6. Operate, clean/maintain facilities and equipment in accordance with standards operating procedures.
    7. Order, receive, decontaminate, and store equipment and other consumables; stock cabinets to help ensure efficiency of laboratory operations.
    8. Provide general assistance to laboratory operations such as preparation of reagents and solutions, and disposal of biological and/or chemical waste to help ensure that operations run smoothly and efficiently.
    9. Train less experienced co-workers in routine duties to help ensure efficiency of the operations.
    10. Adhere to EPA regulations, protocols, Standard Operating Procedures and Good Laboratory Practices.

    QUALIFICATIONS (knowledge, skills and abilities required to accomplish essential functions)
    1. Follow written and verbal instructions.

    3. Recognize non-routine or unusual circumstances and obtain advice from appropriate personnel.
    4. Organize, prioritize, and complete assignments to stated specifications.

    7. Maintain/obtain computer skills, commensurate with Essential Functions; including ability to learn a validated system.
    8. General chemistry, biology, and mathematics skills.
    9. Function independently with minimal supervision and take the initiative to accomplish tasks for the team that need to be completed.
    10. Recognize relevant work to be done and take necessary action.
    11. Must be able to deliver high-quality work product.
    12. Must be able to operate in a regulatory environment.
    13. Must be flexible and able to obtain new knowledge and skills that will contribute to overall objectives.
    14. Must be able to work a minimum of one weekend in an eight-week period.
    15. Must be willing to handle laboratory animals.

    Position Requirements:
    • Two-year Associate (AA) Degree from an accredited histotechnology program, animal science degree or on-the-job training with at least 5 years of comprehensive laboratory experience.
    • Baccalaureate degree in Histotechnology, Basic Sciences or another related field from an accredited program is preferred.
    • Certification as HT or HTL by a nationally recognized program, i.e., ASCP or equivalent, is recommended.
